Roma, 25 maggio 2021- Il Long Covid, cioè quei sintomi caratteristici della malattia che a volte durano settimane, se non addirittura mesi dopo l’infezione, ha un’incidenza che oscilla dal 12,8% al 27,8% dei pazienti convalescenti non ospedalizzati. E’ il risultato di uno studio pubblicato su The Lancet Regional Health – Europe, condotto su un gruppo di 958 pazienti con infezione da Coronavirus, seguiti ambulatorialmente dall’ospedale universitario di Colonia. Perdita dell’olfatto e del gusto (anosmia e ageusia), stanchezza e affanno sono risultati i più comuni sintomi registrati dai pazienti, seguiti in due gruppi rispettivamente di 442 (seguiti dopo 4 mesi) e 353 pazienti (dopo 7 mesi). Dopo 4 mesi, in particolare, l’,8,6% presentava respiro affannoso, il 12,4% anosmia, l’11,1% anosmia, e il 9,7% stanchezza. Almeno uno di questi sintomi caratteristici del Covid era presente nel 27,8% del gruppo monitorato dopo 4 mesi e nel 34,8% del gruppo controllato dopo 7 mesi. Lo studio sottolinea che il Long Covid è quindi possibile anche dopo un esordio della malattia in forma leggera. “Il quadro clinico del Long Covid – si legge nella ricerca – è complesso e lontano dall’essere compreso. E’ comunque possibile che molti organi abbiano il potenziale di fronteggiare non solo il danno acuto, ma anche quello cronico determinati dalla malattia di lungo termine. Non sono ancora state ben identificate terapie appropriate, ma può essere utile la riabilitazione fisica. E’ necessario che la ricerca si focalizzi sulle terapie individuali, come pure sviluppi nuove opzioni terapeutiche per chi soffre di Long-Covid”.
