Roma, 7 luglio 2020 – Lo tsunami rappresentato dal Covid-19 ha colpito anche la ricerca oncologica italiana. Come si evidenzia anche da una indagine condotta dalla Federation of Italian Cooperative Oncology Groups (FICOG) presso le oncologie italiane, dallo scoppio della pandemia nel nostro Paese le sperimentazioni cliniche si sono ridotte di circa il 35% a causa sia dell’impatto dell’emergenza Covid-19 nelle strutture sanitarie che del lockdown. Inoltre c’è preoccupazione per gli attesi regolamenti normativi e per le risorse economiche messe a disposizione. E’ quanto rende noto la FICOG durante una conferenza stampa on line alla quale partecipano rappresentanti degli oncologi, dell’industria e delle Istituzioni. L’obiettivo, dell’incontro virtuale, è avviare un primo confronto tra tutti gli attori coinvolti ed elaborare nuove strategie. “E’ arrivato il momento di avviare un Programma Nazionale per la ricerca oncologica – sottolinea il prof. Carmine Pinto, Presidente FICOG -. A causa del Coronavirus ci aspettiamo nei prossimi mesi ancora difficoltà a promuovere nuovi studi, a trovare risorse e nella comunicazione e informazione dei pazienti. Andrà poi limitata, il più possibile, la migrazione dei malati da una Regione all’altra e andranno previste alcune attività di assistenza da remoto per ridurre gli ingressi nelle strutture sanitarie. Come FICOG quindi ribadiamo la necessità di una Rete Nazionale di tutti i centri che svolgono ricerca clinica. Grazie ad una maggiore condivisione, su tutta la Penisola, di progetti e risorse si potrebbe favorire il proseguimento della ricerca oncologica che da sempre è uno dei fiori all’occhiello del nostro sistema sanitario nazionale. Si può prendere a modello quello che già avviene negli Stati Uniti dove esiste un piano nazionale che indirizza i progetti e quindi le risorse economiche ed umane evitando frammentazioni. Occorre quindi un deciso cambio di marcia in una strategia unitaria, coordinata e condivisa”. “Nonostante le grandissime difficoltà che abbiamo dovuto affrontare, a causa del boom di contagi, il sistema della ricerca ha retto – prosegue Evaristo Maiello, Tesoriere FICOG -. Ne sono una prova oggettiva i numerosi studi avviati in Italia nel corso dell’emergenza per trovare nuove cure contro il Covid-19. Ciò è stato possibile grazie all’incessante lavoro del Comitato Tecnico Scientifico dell’Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco (AIFA). Ora bisogna riprendere i progetti che sono stati interrotti e cominciare con nuove sperimentazioni su trattamenti anticancro innovativi. Per farlo è però necessaria una forte condivisione tra Associazioni medico-scientifiche, AIFA, Istituto Superiore di Sanità e Ministero della Salute e Regioni”. “Anche il ruolo dei vari comitati etici attivi sull’intero territorio nazionale va ripensato prendendo ad esempio proprio quello che è successo durante la prima fase della pandemia – aggiunge Pinto -. L’istituzione del Comitato Etico Unico ha funzionato durante le settimane più difficili di marzo e aprile e ha favorito l’avvio di studi clinici. Si può quindi semplificare e velocizzare anche nel campo della ricerca”.
