10 novembre 2022 – Quasi un terzo dei bambini europei è in sovrappeso e più di uno su dieci è francamente obeso. L’Italia è tra i Paesi in cui si registrano dati peggiori: è terza dopo Cipro e Grecia. È quanto emerge dal rapporto dedicato all’obesità dell’ufficio europeo dell’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità. Il documento, che costituisce il quinto rapporto della ‘WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative’, analizza i dati relativi al periodo 2018-2020 provenienti dalle autorità nazionali di 33 Paesi della regione europea dell’Oms; per l’Italia, quelli dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità e del ministero della Salute. In media è emerso che il 29% dei bambini tra i 7 e i 9 anni è in sovrappeso con una lieve maggiore prevalenza nei maschi (31%) rispetto alle femmine (28%). È obeso, invece, il 12% dei bambini; anche in questo caso tra i maschi sono stati registrati tassi più alti (14% contro 10%). Ampie le differenze tra i Paesi, con il Tagikistan che presenta i più bassi tassi sia di sovrappeso (6%) sia di obesità (1%) e Cipro quelli più alti (rispettivamente il 43% e il 19%). L’Italia è tra i Paesi con tassi più alti: è sovrappeso tra il 38,8% dei bambini di 8 anni e il 37,4% di quelli di 9 anni; è obeso, rispettivamente il 17,1% e il 15,8%. Il rapporto ha analizzato anche gli stili di vita che influenzano il peso, rilevando che meno della metà (il 43%) dei bambini consuma frutta fresca tutti i giorni, solo un terzo (34%) consuma verdure quotidianamente, il 22% consuma bevande zuccherate più di tre volte a settimana. Per quel concerne l’attività fisica, solo il 41% va a scuola a piedi, poco più della metà (53%) svolge sport per almeno due ore a settimana, tuttavia l’87% svolge almeno un’ora al giorno di attività fisica intensa. Infine, secondo il rapporto, il 43% dei bambini europei trascorre almeno due ore al giorno guardando la Tv o usando dispositivi elettronici; la percentuale supera il 70% nel fine settimana.
