Roma, 21 luglio 2021 – “Se le vaccinazioni anti-Covid nella popolazione raggiungono alti livelli di copertura, si verifica l’effetto paradosso per cui il numero assoluto di infezioni, ospedalizzazioni e decessi può essere simile tra i vaccinati rispetto ai non vaccinati. In questi casi, però, l’incidenza (intesa come il rapporto tra il numero dei casi e la popolazione), è circa 10 volte più bassa nei vaccinati rispetto ai non vaccinati. Questi numeri, se letti correttamente, quindi, ribadiscono quanto la vaccinazione sia efficace”. E’ quanto si legge in un nuovo aggiornamento delle ‘Faq’ sui casi Covid-19 registrati tra i vaccinati, elaborato dall’Istituto superiore di sanità (Iss). I numeri di Covid-19 nella popolazione vaccinata sono ‘falsati’ da un effetto “paradosso atteso e ben conosciuto, che bisogna saper riconoscere per evitare preoccupazioni e perdita di fiducia nella vaccinazione”, spiega l’Iss. “La vaccinazione anti Covid-19, come accade per tutte le vaccinazioni, non protegge il 100% degli individui vaccinati”, premette l’Iss. “Attualmente – ricorda – sappiamo che la vaccinazione, se si effettua il ciclo vaccinale completo, protegge all’88% dall’infezione, al 94% dal ricovero in ospedale, al 97% dal ricovero in terapia intensiva e al 96% da un esito fatale della malattia. E’ quindi possibile e atteso un limitato numero di casi di infezione, di ricoveri ospedalieri, di ricoveri in terapia intensiva e di decessi anche tra i vaccinati, in numeri estremamente più bassi se confrontati a quelli che si verificano tra i soggetti non vaccinati”. “Con l’aumentare della copertura vaccinale – prosegue l’Iss – decresce il numero dei casi proprio per l’efficacia della vaccinazione: questo comporta che i pochi casi tra i vaccinati possano apparire proporzionalmente numerosi; in gruppi di popolazione con una copertura vaccinale altissima, la maggior parte dei casi segnalati si potrebbe così verificare in soggetti vaccinati, solo perché la numerosità della popolazione dei vaccinati è molto più elevata di quella dei soggetti non vaccinati”. Ecco appunto il “paradosso” sul quale l’Istituto superiore di sanità ci tiene a far luce. “I sistemi di sorveglianza, inoltre – conclude l’Iss – non rendono evidenti i casi di malattia evitati dalla vaccinazione, ma fanno emergere solo quelli che si ammalano malgrado la vaccinazione”.
