Roma, 16 ottobre 2020 – “I Paesi membri dell’UE dovrebbero individuare fin d’ora dei gruppi che andranno vaccinati per primi contro la Covid-19, visto che il vaccino, quando e se arriverà, sarà inizialmente disponibile in quantità limitate”. E’ uno dei principali elementi della comunicazione sui vaccini diffusa oggi dalla Commissione Europea, che incoraggia gli Stati ad adottare un approccio “coordinato” a questa materia. “Tutti gli Stati membri – spiega l’esecutivo UE -, avranno contemporaneamente accesso ai vaccini in base al numero di abitanti. Ma durante le fasi iniziali di diffusione e prima che la produzione possa essere incrementata, il numero complessivo di dosi sarà limitato”. La comunicazione fornisce quindi esempi di gruppi prioritari (non elencati in ordine di priorità, perché si tratta di una competenza nazionale) che i Paesi dovrebbero prendere in considerazione quando i vaccini saranno disponibili, tra cui operatori sanitari e delle strutture di assistenza a lungo termine; persone di età superiore a 60 anni; persone particolarmente a rischio a causa delle loro condizioni di salute; lavoratori essenziali; persone impossibilitate a osservare il distanziamento sociale; gruppi socioeconomici più svantaggiati. Per la presidente Ursula von der Leyen, “un vaccino sicuro ed efficace è la nostra arma migliore per sconfiggere il coronavirus e tornare alla vita normale. Ci siamo fortemente impegnati per concludere accordi con le aziende farmaceutiche e garantire un determinato numero di dosi in futuro”. “Ora – continua von der Leyen – dobbiamo assicurarci che l’arrivo di un vaccino ci trovi pienamente preparati a diffonderlo. La nostra strategia di vaccinazione aiuta i paesi dell’Ue a predisporre le loro campagne di vaccinazione, ossia a stabilire quali siano i gruppi prioritari, come garantire una distribuzione equa e come proteggere i più vulnerabili. Se vogliamo che la vaccinazione sia efficace dobbiamo prepararci adesso”.
