Bergamo, 11 giugno 2021 – I risultati erano già in pre-print, ma ora giunge la pubblicazione su ‘EClinicalMedicine’, magazine che fa capo a ‘The Lancet’: un semplice algoritmo per il trattamento domiciliare di pazienti Covid-19 può prevenire il ricovero in ospedale. Lo studio è stato elaborato dall’Istituto Mario Negri e condotto in collaborazione con un gruppo di medici di base di Varese e di Teramo. Nei primi 2-3 giorni – spiegano gli autori, Giuseppe Remuzzi, direttore del Mario Negri e Fredy Suter, primario emerito dell’Ospedale Papa Giovanni XXIII di Bergamo – il Covid-19 è in fase di incubazione e la persona non presenta ancora sintomi. Nei 4-7 giorni successivi, la carica virale aumenta facendo comparire i primi sintomi. Intervenire in questa fase, iniziando a curarsi a casa e trattando il Covid-19 come si farebbe con qualsiasi altra infezione respiratoria, ancora prima che sia disponibile l’esito del tampone, potrebbe aiutare ad accelerare il recupero e a ridurre il ricorso al ricovero. I farmaci antinfiammatori non steroidei (Fans) sarebbero quelli più indicati nelle prime fasi della malattia. Lo studio ha coinvolto 90 pazienti con Covid-19 lieve, che sono stati trattati a casa dai loro medici di famiglia secondo il protocollo proposto. Si è tradotto in una diminuzione da 13 a 2 pazienti con esigenza di ospedalizzazione e una riduzione di oltre il 90% del numero complessivo di giorni di ricovero e dei relativi costi di trattamento, rispetto a un gruppo di pazienti con le stesse caratteristiche, ma che avevano ricevuto altri regimi terapeutici. Questi risultati sono stati confermati in un altro gruppo di controllo di 1779 pazienti.
